Iran’s Antics Continue

It’s looking more and more like Iran enjoys challenging the west. Iranian Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi has said Iran’s judiciary is preventing her from representing a US-Iranian academic detained in Tehran last week.

Actions by Iran in recent months, both known and alleged, include the capturing of British Sailors, persecution of women exposing too much skin in Iran, aiding fighters in Iraq and further pursuit of a nuclear program. Hopefully progress will be made during nuclear talks between the EU and Iran in Spain on May 31. All signs point to a more radical Iran emerging that wishes to test its power. This is when many thought that a younger Iranian population might bring about a more moderate regime. It will be curious to see the reaction of moderate states in the region, the west, and the Iranian people themselves as the extreme measures continue.
