There’s a lot of work to be done

CNN released a poll on the subject of gas prices. 32% of those in the United States (margin of error 3%) think that rising gas prices are somehow related to supply and demand. Apparently the other 68% of the country attributes the rise of gas prices to ‘little green men’.

This is pretty sad stuff, especially when you consider how broad a category “supply and demand” is. Obviously, the fact that oil is finite is a supply issue, but even if someone thought the whole issue was just refining capacity or monopoly rents for OPEC, that would be supply and demand. Unless a central planner is setting prices, everything is supply and demand. This shows that not only are Americans not listening to talk of peak oil, they insist on clinging to conspiracy theories instead.
